Footnote¹:
This pencil sketch of Neal A. Prince was completed by Herbert Waide Hemphill, Jr. (Burt), on January 10th, 1951, as a token of the evening at the time. Mr. Prince was posing for Burt as they both were listening to various L.P.
Records and entertained themselves with their choice of Scotch and Soda’s cocktails. Burt would often try to sketch
Mr. Prince when they played L.P. Records during many number of late evenings. Burt signed the sketch as “Burt Whitman”,
to reflect his humor and silliness on January
10th, 1951 as Mr. Prince was working on a Walt Whitman script,
which at the time, Mr. Prince and Mr. Hemphill was celebrating Mr. Prince’s birthday. And therefore, Mr. Prince has
remained to retain this work of art after 60 years and still – considers this one of his most important pieces within
this collection.
